This is my home.
There’s a picture of me with President Trump.
There are my medals and my purple heart, which I bled for.
As a young man, I was the state powerlifting champion, and I played starting guard for West Virginia.
But what made me really proud was the long line of warriors I was descended from…
My grandfather lost his leg on D-Day. And my other grandfather stormed the beach at Iwo Jima.
They were serious men, in serious times.
And I looked up to them both.
In a lot of ways, they’re the reason I became a cop, and eventually a homicide investigator outside of Baltimore.
But deep down, some part of me still felt… like I hadn’t done my part.
Well, in 2011, the war in Afghanistan started to get really bad… American boys were coming home in body bags.
So at 35 years old, I did something crazy… something that everyone told me I was too old to do…
I retired as the Deputy Chief of police, and joined the Army.
